Apotelesma: Character Background - Darrin Crede

Hey, everyone! Colin Parker here. If you listen to Apotelesma, then you are familiar with the main character I play, Darrin Crede. I thought it would be fun to provide some insight into his history that we can’t fully touch on in the show due to copyright law.

If you’re not familiar with the show, then let me give a quick explanation: Apotelesma is a spooky actual play podcast, with Season One being in the ttrpg Okult. In Okult, there is no GM, so the mystery is completely improvised between all the players. The players each play a main character and countless NPCs in their hometown.  main character is based 50% off your real life, and 50% not. So, I couldn’t have Darrin be a podcaster. BUT from 2006-2014 I played in a couple different ska bands, and ever since 1999 I’d always wanted to be in a pop punk band. So I felt like that was an experience I could draw from. (That and use my Music Industry knowledge since I have bachelors degree in it).

Okay, now that we’re all on the same page: this is a playlist I made on Spotify that contains (at the time of writing this) 502 songs. It’s mostly full albums and a few random tracks. 95% pop punk music from 1990’s to today. This is the albums and bands that I felt Darrin either was/is into, influenced his music, etc.

Coming into the character introduction episode, I knew straight up that Darrin’s band sounded like The Menzingers. The album After The Party is still an album I listen to at least once a week since it came out. And the sound of the album to me felt like what he needed to sound like. This meant that classic blink-182, Alkaline Trio, and Green Day were musts. For me, I can’t talk 1990’s pop punk without Lagwagon’s Let’s Talk About Feelings and so that definitely needed to be in here. From there it was a lot of exploration and just throwing things in even if I, Colin, didn’t like it (ex: Green Day after Warning) but that doesn’t mean Darrin dislikes it.

I’m very open to adding on to this if anyone has suggestions for Darrin (or me) to try out. Hit me up on Twitter @ColinMParker to suggest tracks, albums, or bands! I hope this was interesting for you. Beth has stated she’d like to make a playlist for past and present Ellie, so maybe we’ll have more playlists in the future!
